Day off and dinner

It doesn't seem we can ever have enough days off, and when you get days off you have to house chores. Is that really a day off? I'm not sure. I have gotten good at splitting my time. For exmple playing video games or watching TV while I do the laundry, but there are always some things that you can't split you time with either.

Well that's all have to say about that.

I got in to a Leadership Essentials Training Program at work. After the first day we went out to dinner with some the the District and Group Leaders. We went to this fish restraunt and I had a phone from the store as we were sitting down. So I walked to the table after everybody else. The only seat left was next to the Group VP (The Store Mangers boss' boss), so I sat there. There were still two seats open and the last two people to sit down were the Human REsource Manger (the Stores HR boss' boss) and the Group Assets Protection Team Leader (my boss' boss). So depending on how you look at it I had the good seat of the bad seat. The night went well. I didn't make a fool of myself. Food was ok.

And I just came across this picture and wanted to post it. The boys are always lifting me up. And E I'm not that heavy.

Friday, back to Golf!

Well Dad and I slept in and then finally got up. After a slow start we went to the driving range and split 75 balls. Then went back home had some lunch and then hit the course. Today we played at the $5 dollar course. It was a nice little par 3 course. We were the only two on the course. I hit my first real par. Real meaning it was the first ball. I had a not real birdie, it was my second ball. I have gotten a little better already. I just need to keep working on it. Overall it has been a fun week. It was good to have Dad come out and spend sometime up here. Who's next?

Off to San Diego on Thursday

Well Dad has a cousin (George) that lives in SD and we wanted to go down there anyway. So we met up with his cousin and went out to lunch. George took us to lunch at a restaurant on the beach. We got a window view that looks out over the beach and ocean.

It had some great sea food. We then went out to a look out point that looked out over the city, it as a little hazy but was still neat. We were able to look down at the Submarine base, but there weren’t any subs docked there. We then went into the city and took a tour of the USS Midway. It is an Aircraft Carrier docked there. Across from were the Midway is docked there is Navy Base and the USS Nimitz and USS Ronald Regan were docked, also Aircraft Carriers. It was a neat tour they gave you a audio tour for free. You got to walk through the hanger, second deck and on the flight deck. You could also go through the bridge but we didn’t make it there.

After that we went back to George’s house and he cooked steak and potatoes for dinner. All around it was a good day and nice to meet family I had never met. George also said I have to come back down sometime and go sailing. He has to really twist my arm, let me tell you. And one neat thing is you can sail year round down here.

Wednesday off to COWBOYS Training Camp

So one of the cool things about Cali at this point is Cowboys training camp is held about two hours away. So a short Texas drive and your there. That is what Dad and I did on Wednesday. We drove to Oxnard, CA. to watch the Cowboys training camp. Another cool thing is you only have to pay $5 dollars for a day of parking and it's free to get into watch the camp.

So into the helmet we go! It seems they built the training field just for the Cowboys camp. It had two 100 yard fields and sidelines. A fence area aroud the fields for the fans to stand at. If you didn't want to stand you could sit in some bleachers and watch.

It was pretty neat watch them practice. If you ever played football it was a lot like our own practices. Imagine that! Roy Williams and some rookie almost got into it. That was funny. We saw the injured Terrel Owens working out with the trainer. We saw Tyson Thopmson who is a born and nread Texan from Irvung. The first Cowboy from Irving. I got to seem him play in High School when he had his second bet overall rushing game against Richland rushing for over 300 yards.

As we were leaving after the second practice I saw one of the buses they had out the complex out there and decided to have a look. Well it was kind of a show off trailer. IT had all five of the Superbowl trophies displayed along with big replicas of the three most recent Superbowl rings. They were also letting people take pictures in frot of the trophies while wearing the five superbowl rings. So of course I had to do that. The rings were huge, and had lots of diamonds. As you can see the first two are white gold and the last three are yellow gold. Pretty neat huh?

Tuesday Golfing

So on Tuesday Dad and I went an played nine holes of golf. Fun to say the least. I really suck, but it was still fun. I just need to get out to the range more. Last year for my birthday Dad gave me a set of his old golf clubs and a new bag. I haven't had the chance to really use them till now. When searching for a place to play we found a course that had $5 green fees. Ya buddy, but it was closed. So we went to the course that had $12 green fees. Still really cool. Most green fees are in the $30+ range. So I don't know what I shot because I didnt keep track. I think the par was 36, even with the handicaps, I didnt come close to par. I had a couple of really good shots though. We also found this cool golf shop. ANd that was Golf day.

The Museums

Well day two. Dad and I went up to Victorville and visited the Route 66 museum there. Not a bad little place since we didn’t know a whole lot about Route 66. There also a museum in Texas in McLean Texas. Have to go there some time. Not a whole lot to report really. Saw items really associated with early time driving. Signs, maps, etc. Took some pictures outside the museum of Dad and I. Drove down Route 66 in Victorville for about a mile then headed back south towards home.

On the way home we decided to go to the Palm Springs WWII air museum. This was pretty cool. A lot better than I thought it was going to be. They had three hangers full of planes all but two that still actually flew. Some of the more notables were the B-17 G Flying Fortress, P47 D Thunderbolt, F6F Hellcat, MKXIV Spitfire, and P51 D Mustang as well as others. Out in front of the museum they had several fighter jets all Navy except for the F16 Falcon, but that was painted Navy colors and used as an aggressor at Top Gun. Inside they even had maps of the major battles of the Pacific and in Europe during WWII. Overall it was pretty cool. I also have to go back and get the playing cards they had. They had one set the showed the silhouettes of all of the planes in WWII as well as a set of cards that had the silhouettes of the war ships during the time period of WWI and WWII. Pretty cool huh! After that we came home and BBQ on my gas grill. OH YA. Chicken baby.

I had to put this picture in just to tease Armand. Although they do give props to the Falcon. And it has always been one of my favorate fighter jets.

I wanted to put this bad boy in here. It is the F6 Hell cat. It had the best kill ratio during WWII, 19-1 by the end of the war. and had the most total kills by the end of the war. 5,562 (or something like that.) Crazy numbers. It was the fighter to fly.

LA Day

Well, Dad and I went into LA today. We stopped off at the Roman Chinese Theatre. Walked around the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and looked at some cemented hand and foot prints. Ate lunch at the California Pizza Kitchen. We traveled around to look for the Hoolywood sign on the hill to get close to it. Couldn't find our way up there. Not really surprising since we kind of winged it. Did travel through Griffen Park in North Hollywood through. After that drove through Beverly Hills. We were going to drive down to Long Beach but ran out of time. Not a bad first day.

Boy how time flys

Well it didn't seem like that the last time I posted was in May, oh well. I start my vacation tomorrow so I guess I'll post something today. THe world of Scott in sunny California hasn't changed much. Work is work, never enough time in the day, but what can you do.

So I did get to interview for a program at Target call Leadership Essentials Training or LET. Just to get into the program you have to take three online tests. A Critical Thinking, Psycholoical, and Math and Verbal test. The math and verbal were in the same test. Then I got to have a phone interview with a real Pyschologist! Let me tell you that was interresting. Talk about questions from out of no where. After that I had three sets of interviews with six people, consisting of two District managers, a District HRM, a Group Operations Manager, a Group HRM, and the Group VP. Fun!

It seems to have gone well, but I have not heard any offical feedback yet. So I could be wrong. I am waiting the test and doc review of how I did. We all know I'm crazy so I won't be surpised to hear that.

Well back to vacation. Dads flying in tomorrow. Going to try to see some of the sites I haven't seen yet while he is here.

Well I'll blog again in three months, jk; maybe, we'll see.
